I AM CONSIDERING THE PURCHASE OF A 4115 OR THE COMPARABLE KUBOTA. NOWHERE IN DEERE'S LITERATURE IS TURNING RADIUS LISTED. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE MOWING QUALITY (AGILITY) OF THIS MODEL. ADDITIONALLY, DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHY DEERE RATES THIS 24HP MODEL CAPABLE OF DRIVING A 72" MID MOUNT MOWER WHEN ALL OTHER MFG. REQUIRE A 29HP + TRACTOR TO ACCOMPLISH THIS TASK?
I BELIVE THE KUBOTA IS AT 6.9' BUT THE DEERE IS SLIGHTLY LARGER. WHERE CAN I FIND THIS INFO?

I just checked the spec's page on the Deere website. It lists the turning radius as 7.5 ft. w/brakes and 8.9 ft. W/O brakes. I don't think you'll have any power problem with the wide mower deck as long as it's just regular lawn mowing duty, but unless you have a really level lawn my experience has been that a 60 in. deck is plenty wide so far as not scalping, leaving a nice level cut etc. I don't know if they measure the turning radius with the 4WD engaged or not, but running in 2 WD makes turning lots easier. Mid mount decks are quite pricey and a real pain to remove. If you need a tractor in the 4000 series size for other dutys besides mowing sometimes you can buy a real nice used rider for about the same money as a MMM on a 4000 series and avoid the hassel of removing and remounting the deck. Ground speed has a lot to do with HP requirements. Manufacturer HP recommendations in part are judgments about the minimum speeds acceptable to owners. Could be that the JD recommendations are based on slower ground speeds.
The blade tip speeds also could be lower. Leveling of the deck also affects HP requirements. Slightly down in front takes less HP but also gives less mulching action. Perhaps other manufacturer recommendations contain an allowance for different leveling. There are a bunch of possible explanations. ....

Here is one clue.... the 4115 has 24 gross and 20 pto(mowing) horsepower. The comparable Kubota requires a 27 hp engine to produce 20 at the pto.
My guess is that the three speed hst on the 'bota soaks up more ponies than the two speed hst on the 4115.
Also.... the turning radius is largely dependant on the wheelbase. Tractors with similar wheelbases and widths will have similar turning radius. The exception would be the super steer feature offered by NH.
If you have any more technical questions on the 4115 I can look it up in my manuals. ....

Better yet, take a look at the wheel base. In order for the Kubota to turn tighter it is shorter and you would not easily get a 72" wide deck underneath it.

Art is correct to steer you to the wheelbase dimension for comparable machines. My 4110 has a turning radius of 7.5 feet without brakes, as opposed to the 7.5 turning radius of the 4115 using brakes. The cause is a significantly longer wheelbase and wheel/tire size on the 4115 (a good thing for many applications). The result in the 4110 design is a much smaller uncut patch of grass mowing with a belly mower with the steering locked (full limit of steering wheel). This is the essential reason I chose the 4110 over the 4115, i.e., I mow approximately 80-100 hours each year and I do dodge 50+ well-planned tree plantings. If I had to balance the "scale of utility" upward toward greater machine weight and PTO power, I would have a 4115 right now. The numbers will never lie to you and you should pick the machine and class that suits your primary use. Pete
